Bus firm ALSA has become the first in Spain to install emergency defibrillators on buses, in order to provide better emergency assistance to passengers when away from city centres.
The initial phase of the scheme has seen buses and crews on the Madrid to Bilbao, Vitoria, San Sebastián, Granada, Soria and Logroño routes prioritized, with drivers and support staff trained in their use.
With growing fears of isolation following the huge reduction in emergency ambulances in Spain, the access to this lifesaving equipment in the event of an emergency could well mean the difference between life and death. Having the equipment on the bus not only means that assistance can be rendered at city centre bus stations, but also on the road between stops, and can be called upon in the event of an emergency outside the vehicle itself.
The units are the latest, state of the art defibrillators, which can be monitored and maintained remotely, offer continual “tele-assistance” and geolocation through Mondial Assistance, so they can be used with the maximum security and performance guaranteed.
