No Gifts for the Torrevieja Mayor
The new mayor of Torrevieja, José Manuel Dolón, has explained the reasons why he has implemented a policy whereas he will not accept any gifts whilst in the role of head of the municipality.
Dolón has said that he does not want to achieve personal gains whilst in the role of serving the public office, but has acknowledged that sometimes gifts from visiting dignitaries cannot be refused for fear of offending those visitors.
Therefore, if the mayor does receive a gift, it will either be placed in the municipal heritage property, such as is the case of a musical score presented this week, or will be donated to charitable and none profit entities in order for them to benefit.
“These can be put to good use in raffles and drawers”, he said, whilst also highlighting historic cases of previous political members who benefitted from gifts ranging from suits to holidays.
