An officer from the Guardia Civil traffic section based in Valladolid was killed in the line of duty on Wednesday on the A-62 near to urbanización El Montico, in Burgos.
The 112 emergency coordination centre received an urgent call at 17:17 from the Guardia Civil saying that one of their officers had been hit by a vehicle and required urgent medical assistance.
The officer, who was 56 years of age and with the initials D.A.N., was riding with his colleague behind a slow moving truck which was having difficulties.
A car driver failed to notice the hazard ahead and crashed into the motorbike, knocking the officer from his vehicle and running over him on the road.
Emergency assistance was immediately dispatched but an emergency intensive care unit was stood down after the officer had been confirmed to have lost his life at the scene.
