Torrevieja Theatre to cost 250,000 to re-open
The costs involved in re-opening Torrevieja´s municipal theatre will be an additional 250,000 euro to the tax payer.
The news comes after the Mayor of the town, José Manuel Dolón, held a press conference detailing the work required in order to legalise the building which had been open for years without satisfying a number of basic safety requirements.
The theatre was first critisised after a listed building was demolished in order to build the flagship entertainment venture, at a cost of 6.4 million euro. However, that initial budget was proven to be so far off the mark when the final costs were in the region of 11 million, and it still lacked the mandatory operating licences.
Despite that, the previous government of the town allowed the venue to operate and it was subsequently closed on the grounds of safety following that government´s defeat in the local elections.
Now, the work required to make the building legal will add another quarter of a million on the tab, which is paid for by the municipality, and ultimately the tax payer, in order that the building can open once again.
