Sports tourism is set to bring in 279 million euro into the Murcia region this year, according to the regional government’s tourism department, with the main focus being in the San Pedro del Pinatar and San Javier municipalities.
A special presentation this week at the Pinatar Arena, led by tourist minister Juan Hernandez, revealed that his department expects 171,000 sports-related visitors this year, a rise of over eight per cent on last year.
Soccer teams and golf players are leading the charge in using local facilities and staying in accommodation.
