One of the most heart warming days at the beach took place at Las Teresitas, at Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Saturday, when the beach and the sea were both offered up to workers of a four legged kind.
A total of fifteen guide dogs were freed from the responsibility of their daily routine and given the opportunity to take a day off, playing in the sand, swimming in the sea and relieving themselves of the stresses and strains of their working lives, all accompanied by the owners they normally serve, but assisted by volunteers, as well as members of the police, Protección Civil, Cruz Roja and more, to ensure that the best time could be had by all.
There was also a serious message accompanying the campaign, one of raising awareness of the needs and roles of guide dogs, as well as the legislation that allows them to go where other dogs may not be permitted.
Seriousness aside though, it was quite clear that all of the dogs appreciated their day in the sun, a day which the organisers intend to repeat again and again, so as to keep giving joy to those who work tirelessly to serve their human companions.
