Officers from the Guardia Civil Trafico in Pontevedra intercepted a 44-year old truck driver from Redondela on the A-52 motorway, who registered at 10 times over the legal maximum permitted limit of alcohol for a professional driver of this type of vehicle.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, at around 18:00, when officers received an alert of an articulated truck driving erratically on the A-52, and so that patrols were dispatched from the Porriño based where they followed the truck before intercepting it at kilometre 292.
The driver, who showed obvious symptoms of intoxication, underwent a breath test, in which he gave a positive reading of 1.69 and 1.63 mg / l, which is ten times the limit allowed for this type of profession.
The Guardia Civil point out that this is “the highest rate detected in Galicia in recent years,” and is to inducing ethyl coma and progressive unconsciousness.
As a result, the truck, with which he intended to travel to France, was impounded, and judicial proceedings were instituted for a crime against road safety, with a prison sentence of between 3 and 6 months, a significant fine or community service being the likely outcome, plus the loss of licence for, and subsequently his profession, for between 1 and 4 years.
