Officers from the National Police have arrested twelve people in the provinces of Alicante, Almería, Barcelona, Madrid, Pontevedra and Valladolid for allegedly possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material over the internet. Among those arrested is a woman who distributed images with sexual connotations of her own daughter.

The investigations began when the United States Embassy in Spain sent information regarding various investigations carried out by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the United States, on the alleged commission of crimes of prostitution and corruption of minors. This information warned of facts constituting crimes of possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material through the Internet in Spain.

After several steps, specialist investigators managed to identify twelve users located in Spain and who used the web to distribute material of sexual exploitation, for which they proceeded to arrest all of them.

In the provinces of Alicante, Almería and Madrid, two people were detained in each of them. In Barcelona four individuals were arrested, while in Pontevedra and Valladolid one person was arrested in each province.

One of the detainees in the province of Almería turned out to be a woman who sent images with sexual connotations of one of her daughters, a minor, through an instant messaging application to another of the detainees in the province in Barcelona. Among the effects intervened on the detainees, there are 14 mobile phones, three laptops, nine hard drives, two tablets and 24 CD-Roms.

The National Police reminds that sharing or saving sexual images of minors is a crime, and that, if they become aware of their existence, they must report the content on the social network itself or to the National Police.
