The Public Prosecutor’s Office requests sentences totalling 136 years in prison for 25 people accused of engaging in intermediate drug trafficking such as heroin, MDMA, cannabis and cocaine in the Spanish Levante area between the months of March and October 2012.

Specifically, the Prosecutor accuses the 25 defendants of having engaged in the so-called intermediate drug trafficking, forming small groups or individually, relating to each other to carry out trafficking operations in common and also in a parallel and independent way.

Starting today, Monday, the Fifth Section of the Provincial Court of Murcia, based in Cartagena, will host the trial of these 25 members of a criminal group specialised in drug trafficking that operated mainly in municipalities of the provinces of Murcia and Alicante.

In one of the cases, one of the defendants travelled to Malaga to stock up on drugs and was followed by Guardia Civil officers. When he was intercepted, they found a compartment in the car in which he hid 495 grams of heroin that, on the illicit market, would have reached a value of 1,907 euro.

Specifically, the Prosecutor accuses 6 of the defendants of a crime against public health aggravated by notorious importance, while the remaining 19 are accused of a crime against public health of substances that cause serious damage. Likewise, there is the aggravating circumstance of recidivism for two of the defendants.

The Prosecutor requests individualised penalties that range from 4 years and 6 months in prison to 8 years and 9 months in prison.
