As the emergency meeting convened on Monday to discuss the rise in domestic violence deaths in August, it was confirmed that another two women have lost their lives, bringing the number of women murdered under the description of gender violence in Spain to 42 in 2023, and 1,226 since 2003.
The Ministry of Equality condemned the two latest murders due to gender violence in the province of Jaén and Seville. In the case of Jaén, it is a 52-year-old woman allegedly murdered by her spouse on September 2. The victim did not have any children and there were no previous complaints of gender violence against the alleged aggressor.
The second case, which occurred in Seville, involves a 46-year-old woman allegedly murdered by her partner on September 3. The victim did not have any children and there were no previous complaints of gender violence against the alleged aggressor.
With the confirmation of these cases, the number of women murdered by gender violence in Spain rises to 42 in 2023 and 1,226 since 2003, when data began to be collected.
The Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, and the Government delegate against Gender Violence, Victoria Rosell, want to express once again their most absolute condemnation and rejection of these sexist murders and convey all their support to family and friends of the victims. Both the minister and the delegate ask for all efforts from institutions, administrations and society to seek to avoid more deaths.

At 016 you can request advice on the available resources and the rights of victims of gender violence, as well as legal advice from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day of the week, with attention in 53 languages and a service adapted to possible situations of disability.
On the other hand, also remember that in an emergency situation you can call 112 or the emergency telephone numbers of the National Police (091) and the Guardia Civil (062). If it is not possible to make a call and in a dangerous situation, you can use the ALERTCOPS application, from which an alert signal will be sent to the police with geolocation. These means of assistance can be activated by the victim and also by any person who knows or suspects a case of gender violence. It is a duty of the entire society.
