The new 12,000 square metre complex located in the former headquarters that the company Iberdrola, and which is the second hospital of the IMED group in the province.

The space – divided into basement, ground floor, three outpatient consultation floors and four hospitalisation floors – has a total of 32 rooms and 44 outpatient consultations, with the main medical-surgical specialties. “Imed Colón is an extension of Imed Valencia, located in Burjassot, and its objective is to bring the model closer to patients who reside in the city centre, on the beach or in towns from which it is accessed with relative ease nearby,” explains Alfredo Montoro, manager of the centre.

A doctor specialising in clinical analysis, he has been launching this space for a year and a half, which will be attended by both private patients and patients from the main national and international insurance companies. Montoro, who has been regional manager at Eurofins Megalab Spain, points to a “proximity hospital” model, referring not only to geographical proximity, but also to healthcare.

In this sense, he points out the importance of having a full-time working medical team, seeking for the patient to establish a bond with their doctor. The space will open with a total of 200 employees. “The objective is to bring a model that is having great success, like the one in Burjassot, where 4,000 people pass by every day,” says Montoro. The centre also has a 24-hour emergency room with 7 boxes and an observation area, in addition to 2 MRIs, CT scans, digital radiology and clinical analysis, among other services.

Although a good part of their clients expect them to come from insurance companies, they will also develop other product lines aimed at prevention. “We know that the objective we pursue is to increase our healthy life expectancy. We want to extend the number of years we live with health and avoid diseases, so we have developed products and services that revolve around this objective through rest, health mental health, nutrition and physical exercise,” says Montoro.

They also hope to receive foreign clients, given their experience in hospitals such as Benidorm. In addition, they have agreements with insurers abroad. “The staff we have selected have languages and experience abroad,” he says.

In 2022, IMED’s turnover reached 172 million euro, a figure practically the same as that of 2021 (171 million euro). A year of consolidating billing, being 43.5% higher than the previous year. The group has an expansion strategy throughout the Mediterranean arc and centres in Murcia, Torrevieja, Elche, Alicante, Alcoy, Benidorm, Vila Joiosa Teulada, Gandia and València. A growth to which they attribute the boost in income thanks to geographical expansion, with new centres and expansions of services.
