Whilst politicians consider setting up committees and focus groups to enable them to discuss the merits of homeless and needy families and if their situation justifies them being granted permission to live in a vacant property which has been funded and built for the sole purpose of helping the needy, a different approach has proven worthwhile for seven such families in Málaga.
However, this particular blessing has come from the building and promotions sector, or more specifically the son of a builder who has given a home to the seven families in properties that his father failed to sell.
Quite rightly nicknamed “Suerte”, or luck, the apartment block houses seven women and their children, all of whom had suffered arrest and social exclusion and were destined for a life on the street, until their saviour offered them a lifeline.
But the story of their happiness doesn´t end there. One woman explained that “I was with two small children in the street and I have nothing, no job, no rent, nothing”. In exchange for the kindness of the roof over their heads, the women care for the property, clean, cook and have at least a glimmer of hope for a brighter future, rather than the destitution that their destiny would have achieved.
