CRACKS SHOW IN ORIHUELA POLITICAL OPPOSITION
A total of 11 of the 12 councillors from the opposition Partido Popular political group in Orihuela have today signed an officially recorded censure motion, intended to be the first stage in them attempting to overthrow the government team composed of the PSOE and Los Verdes, putting the PP back in power in the municipality, a position which they lost in the 2011 elections..
However, one of the group, Antonio Rodríguez, refused to sign the proposal because he claims the move has not been authorized by the provincial leadership of the PP.
Antonio Rodríguez justified his decision saying that he believed that the provincial party leaders were not informed of the matter. “If the provincial general secretary, José Juan Zaplana, sends me a message saying that the provincial president, José Ciscar, was not aware of the censure motion, a message transmitted to me yesterday and this morning, I do not know who to question, or who is lying”, explaining why he chose to ignore the motion.
Former Councillor for the coast, now not assigned, Bob Houliston, also attended the session, but CLR councillor, Asunción Mayoral, also having been ejected from the government, who had been said to be in talks with the PP recently, and who has the power to call the motion, also refused to sign, saying that she supports the motion, but only if it has the backing of the entire 12 members of the group, at which point she will then sign herself.
Another former councillor, again ejected from the ruling group, Pedro Mancebo of the CLR, described the situation this morning as “really ridiculous”.
It is thought that there may be a natural progression that could put former mayor, Mónica Lorente, back into the seat of power, should the move be permitted.
