MELENDI TO PERFORM AT PILAR FIESTA

Spanish pop singer Melendi will be Pilar’s star turn at the town fiesta being held on 8 October.

The announcement was made last Wednesday at a press conference chaired by Cllr Asunción Sánchez. She said that the 32 year old former racing driver, best known for the song ‘Magic Alonso, will perform on October 8 at 23.00 hours in the truck parking lot behind the sports centre.

However, unlike his appearance in Torrevieja, when the town hall paid the promoter 21,778 euro from the municipal funds for the privilege, Sánchez says that his appearance at their fiesta will be “without paying” the artist with public money. Instead, the “council only provide collaboration and transfer of land for the concert”.

The poster for the fiesta was chosen from 19 entries submitted by 12 different artists. The winner was David Quesada Conesa .

The program of events for the fiesta gets under way on 28 September with the election and coronation of queens and ends on 19 October with the parade of floats.

Other artistes that will be performing during the fiesta period will include Golden 70 Live, Fifth Chord, Da Igual and Garçon and of course Melendi who’s song “Con la luna llena” was also chosen as the official theme for the 2004 Vuelta de Espana.

Tickets for all the shows will be available from the Town Hall.
