As social networks and mobile phones become smarter, the method of disseminating information becomes not only easier, but capable of reaching more people in one go, the traffic police have become increasingly aware that their speed trap locations are now even easier to share, thus warning potential offenders of their presence, and reducing their capture rates.

It is no wonder therefore that the traffic department of the Guardia Civil are now keeping a watchful eye on some of these websites, so that they know if they are being watched, watching us.

According to sources at the Dgt traffic department, there is no “crime” in sharing this information, in fact, doing so is currently “legal”, and, whereas future legislation may well include this method of warning, the same was as using on-board radar detectors is now covered, there is little more the Guardia Civil can do at the moment, other than keeping moving.

Moving is exactly how the Guardia Civil intend to fight back from their side, by watching the social sites for reports of their location, and then moving to a new one, whilst also trying to keep one step ahead, by “moving every five minutes”, according to the same source.

“If we see a location posted on the internet, alerting drivers behind, we proceed at the same time to remove the checkpoint and place it in another place”.

This information has also coincided with the launch of a special road movement operation to improve the follow of traffic during the holiday weekend, with 5 million trips expected on the roads, and it also coincides with the news that Santa will be brining the Dgt more airborne radar equipment in time for Christmas.
