ORIHUELA LEADING THE WAY TO TRANSPARENCY

Relatively new to the limelight of Orihuela politics, the Councillor responsible for contracts in the municipality, Víctor Ruíz of the PSOE, has launched a new system that aims to make Orihuela town hall activities more transparent, as “We have nothing to hide, nothing to fear”.

This week, information relating to all contracts awarded by the town hall, ranging in value of between 3,000 and 18,000 euro, will be available for reading, checking and inspecting via the council website, www.orihuela.es.

Proud of the aims to shake the shackles of corruption that have marred Orihuela for many years, Ruíz expressed his pride in what he himself described as “measures that place Orihuela Town Hall as one of the most transparent of the Valencian Community”.

Visitors to the website can click on “Perfil del contratante”, under the “Ciudadano” button, and find a link to a tab which displays all the successful tenders, the date and the exact amount of these contracts, “a new exercise in transparency and honesty in management”, said Ruíz.

The councillor also pointed out that since the current government has been in charge of municipal management, they have taken steps in this manner which is “an unprecedented event”, in which they now publish the economic information to encourage exposure of how they are spending public money.
