NEW BAKERY FOR EVERY MERCADONA SUPERMARKET
Following an investment of 26 million euros Mercadona last week unveiled a new bakery section, each boasting state of the art facilities, in every one of its stores.
The initiative is part of the company strategy to promote its new model which concentrates on the sale of fresh produce, with its new ovens, a revamped fish market, fruit and vegetable displays and modern butchery all situated close together.
The new bakery section now includes a wide assortment of breads, savory and sweet specialties, sweet pastries and cakes. The range has been adapted to the tastes and preferences of each locality and will feature far more local produce than has previously been the case.
The new measures have required additional training of 4,550 employees, 303 in the province of Alicante, an investment in their education of around one million euros while the investment in equipment and fittings, as well as changes to many stores, have cost the company an additional EUR 25 million.
