The British Consul, Charmaine Arbouín and the Vice-Consul, Rosslyn Crotty, spent time talking to patients and staff during their visit to the Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice on 17th September.
Dra. Marisa Martin, CEO, Susan Hannam, Vice President and Dr. Rafael Gómez, responsible for all medical care, escorted them to the In-Patient Unit, where they met patients and medical staff. They also visited the Day Care Centre, the Home Care Teams and met staff in the Administration area.
After her tour, the Consul said she was very impressed with everything, as before her visit she had no idea that so much care and specialization was part of the care offered by Cudeca. Dra. Marisa Martin advised her that last year Cudeca had cared for over 800 patients, the majority at home, and this year the number would be again higher, with over 900 patients.
During the past 22 years Cudeca has cared for almost 9,000 patients, of all nationalities without cost. This has been possible with grateful appreciation to the community and many supporting commercial businesses and public entities.
At the end of her visit the Consul joined Joan Hunt, Founder of Cudeca Hospice, with Marisa Martin and Susan Hannam, to watch a short documentary of Cudeca with testimonials of patients and families in the Cudeca In Patient Unit and at home.
We all are sincerely grateful to The British Consul for this very important visit, which will help us to continue offering our Special Kind of Caring.
