The number of foreign contributors to the Spanish Social Security system was down by 17,941 in August, a 1.1% reduction on the previous month, to 1,582,823.
The figures were released last week by the Ministry of Employment.
With the drop in August, the number of foreigners paying into the Social Security has now dropped for the second consecutive month after losing 8,913 contributors in July.
Of all immigrants registered at the end of last month, regular employees numbered 1,339,292; those registered as utonomous 238,618; 4,632 are employed in the fishing industry, and 281 as coal miners.
La Rioja, Navarra, Cantabria and the Canary Islands are the regions with the largest monthly improvement, with increases of 2.3%, 2.08%, 1.7% and 0.98% respectively, while Castilla-La Mancha (- 6.2%), Murcia (-6%) and Aragón (-3.1%) show the largest declines.
