Breakaways Bears remain unbeaten and top Division 2 despite Sporting Life pushing the table toppers all the way. It looked comfortable for the Bears at half time, a 4-2 advantage normally enough to secure a win with 6 singles to play.

Mike Douglas 100,119, Ivan Jones 85,2×100 and Mike Smith 100 did the damage for the Bears ensuring their half time lead. However, the Misfits more than matched their opponents in the scoring department, Karl Cooper 121,85 plus a double, George Caine 135,100, Sonya Cooper 81,100, John Ashworth 134 and Pete James 100. The Misfits scoring advantage was lost however as winning doubles were elusive to the visitors. The break and some succulent Breakaways grub lifted the Misfits, immediately levelling the scoring through Caine 85,100,D8 and James scoring consistently taking out the 501 on D14 for 4 all.

Karl Cooper kept the momentum going with 85,85,124 and D5 to take the lead. Unfortunately for the visitors but fortunately for the Bears, Mike Smith, who has enjoyed tremendous form of late was next. Not quite up to his usual standard but enough to get his side out of trouble he nailed D2 second arrow to level. Another Mike, this one Douglas, figured next and really went for it. A superb leg under the circumstances followed, 81,85,121 and finally D20 gave the Bears a crucial lead with one leg to play.

Enter superwoman, the larger than life Sonya Cooper to rescue the match for the Sporting Life. A super leg culminating on D8 after a 121 to set up the finish completed the match, a draw and a point for both sides. The result keeps the Bears 3 points ahead of their rivals who this week are the Jaguars who move above the Tavern who this week succumbed to the Junction side.

The Jaguars are finding some form now, this week was their fifth victory on the bounce, a fine record. They didn’t get off to the best of starts however, as the Tavern Drivers themselves raced to a 2-0 lead via Stu Mitchell taking the first triples and Justin Hepburn finding S19,D16 in two for the second, John Dursley contributing a ton. Hepburn led the way in the third with some great scoring, but the Jaguars of Simone de Lacy, Tracy Simpson and Hilda Wilkinson were their opponents equal, the latter finishing the 701 on D16. Mitchell and Hepburn 97,133 were too strong in the first doubles for the Jaguars, as Hepburn took out his second leg of the night on D20. Pat Schofield pulled one back for the hosts on D3, followed by Simpson and de Lacy D2 to level the score at the break.

Hepburn was placed first in the singles, expecting the Drivers to resume their lead, but it didn’t happen that way. Wendy Hayward took the honours on D5, for the Jaguars to lead for the first time. Lisa Ivill was next and thought she had won the leg when completing an excellent “Shanghai” on the 13 bed. Her opponent John Dursley reminded her it was a 501 game and showed her the way with 95,80,100 and D6.

Wilkinson regained the lead for the hosts to allow Schofield to ensure the draw with 100 and D10. De Lacy threw a tidy 501 against Ralph Weatherby 95,85 the former matching the scoring and then nailing D8 for the match. Simpson completed the evening with yet another Jaguars leg taking out D2.

A fine performance from Evolution´s Jon Peters helped his side to a draw and valuable point. Two tons and D9 posted Peters intentions in the first despite a 111 from Michelle Lane.

He was at it again in the third finishing the triple on D4, well supported by Jak Doggatt. Chris Miles and Brett Badlove faced Maggie Nicholls and Peters in the opening doubles, both teams reaching the double. It was however Peters in scintillating out form who planted his third dart in D16. Gilly Kirby and Alan Preston D8 levelled the score at half time.

Preston was first choice in the singles and didn’t hang around with 85,85,100 and D2 for the lead. Doggatt´s ton in the next was ignored by Michelle Lane who increased the lead to 2 on D7. Ken Treble reduced the deficit to 5-4 on D4. Some great darts followed from Peters who finished on D16 after a 129 and 140 to take 4 of his side´s 6 legs. An excellent performance! Nicholls concluded the match on D2 to share the spoils.

Back to Division 1 and a fine away performance from Junction Jackals gives them their third victory of the season. Kenny Wilkinson´s finish on D18,D16 was the highlight of a first half which left the visitors 2-4 up. Irene Russell took out Andy Gildea for 3-4, followed by Paul Dowington who rapidly defeated Jimmy Gray 2-0 for 4 all. Babs Warren gave Busters the lead for the first time, taking the third leg against Keith King.

Steph Simpson needed only two legs to defeat Ray Harvey, the score nicely poised at 5 all. Peter O´Rourke couldn’t quite find his usual form playing Wilkinson who took straight legs for the win and at least a draw. Julie Hallett did her best to retrieve a point for Busters taking one of three in a nail biter with Phil de Lacy who ensured both points for the travelling Jackals. Gildea recorded 100,121,132, Wilkinson 3 game shots and 119,113, Simpson 3 game shots, 101,137 for the Jackals.

Que Pasa were once again devoid of their main man John Walker who this week learned of his wife breaking her arm in the UK so determining his wife´s needs were far more important than the Eagles Thursday night darts he returned to the UK. Don’t blame him.

The Porters took the first two via Sid Cross D4 and Peter Ayres D13 including a 103, Kevin Wood replying with a ton. Wood repeated Ayres effort on D13 to take the third, Stuart Clark helping out with a 105. A Ray Hayes ton in the first pairs enabled Ayres to take his second out of the night, this time on D2. A 135 from Wood set up a D16 out from partner Jim Waddell, opponent Yvonne Rouffignac scoring a ton. Den Hall and Jim Storey 125 were the Eagles final pair to face Brian Nash and Ray Sanderson. The Porters came out on top Nash finishing on D5 for a 4-2 half time score line.

Three tons from Nash plus D7 and D3 saw off the challenge from Waddell who took the middle leg on D17 after a 125. Rouffignac got the Porters 6th leg and a point beating an in form opponent in Wood 2-1. It was ¨scores for show¨ as Wood recorded 4×100, his opponent none, but the two doubles required in the best of three D2 and D20, Wood taking it to three.

Hall pulled one back for his side hitting 2xD16 in a 3 leg tie against Hayes 100,D2. Sanderson came from one down to Storey D4, utilising D20 twice to take both points for the Porters. Storey recorded a 140, Sanderson a ton. Cross was surprisingly beaten by Joe Cuyt, the Porter finding very few big scores, his opponent the vital doubles D15 and D10. Ayres faced Clark in the 12th, the latter battering the lipstick with 100,120 and 140, but Ayres D5 in the first and then 180,100 plus D20 gave the hosts their 8th leg of the evening.

Meerkats stay on top of Division 1 after defeating Pint Depot Kings who improved their legs tally against the Kats by 2 this week. This was mainly due to the fine efforts of Matt Cummins who recorded 2×98,85,3×100,180 and 3 game shots. Gary Minor supported well with a comfortable victory over Danas Bobinas nailing D4 and D8 plus 140 and 100.

Martin Bynorth was the other leg winner on D15 plus 111. Two decent individual performances from the Kats, plus an all round team effort was just too much for the Kings. Pat Abrams 5×100,106,2×140 plus a nice D8,D8 throwing for D16 and 4×100,106,140 plus 4 game shots from Paul Durrant were the Kats main performers.
