The King Admits to Driving Fine

Although he didn´t give any details away, King Felipe VI of Spain has been applauded this weekend for another stance in which he confirms that nobody is above the law, admitting to having been fined by the Guardia Civil for a traffic offence.

The admittance came during a tour of the DGT headquarters in which the King took a tour of the facilities, coinciding with the final phase of the Easter special operation. Prior to the tour an unofficial question probed the monarch, asking if he had ever been fined by the Guardia Civil, to which he simply replied “yes”, before qualifying that the incident happened “many years ago”.

The King also sent wishes to the many drivers who were on the roads during the weekend, before thanking the Guardia Civil patrols for their efforts to keep the roads safe whilst even putting their own lives at risk on a daily basis, expressing his “appreciation and affection”, and that of all Spanish men and women of the Guardia Civil Guard and the air assets who are in service on all the country’s roads and in the air, especially on a day like today”, continuing to thank those who “put their lives at risk many times, for which many millions of Spaniards feel well served and safer.

According to provisional data prior to the close of the count at midnight, the ten-day operation has resulted in 13.9 million journeys, an increase of 7.8% from last year.

Sadly, some 25 people lost their lives in the same time frame, although that count also ends at midnight, but it is hoped that the figure will be less than last year when 37 people were killed on the Easter roads.
