Athletics took over in Pilar de la Horadada last Sunday morning when the half-marathon and 10.5km road races were held in the town. Antonio Lorente (35:44) and Mayte Andreu (45:36) were the first male and female home at 10.5Km while Javier Moreno (1:13:00 ‘) and Cristina González (1:27:20) came in first in the annual Half Marathon.
This was the sixth annual running of the race with the number of competing athletes up from last year by approximately 25% to just over 600.
The runners also enjoyed a change from the usual course which the Councillor for Sports, Adrian Lopez said offered substantial improvements to the participants enabling just a single lap of 21 km, mostly running along the coast.
He offered particular thanks to the municipal workers, civil protection and the main sponsors of the event, among which were Grupo Caliche and One Telecom.
Winner of the Half Marathon over the single lap was Javier Moreno with second place going to Francisco José Conesa with a time of 1:15:41, and third place to Bartolomé Sánchez with a time of 1:16:01.
In the women’s race the winner was Cristina González followed by Nicole Kronsbein with a time of 1:33:41 and Mari Carmen Lorenzo in third with 1:37 : 00.
In the 10.5 kilometers race, held for the third year, the women’s category was won by Mayte Andreu, followed by Karol Estalrich in 48:15 and Merche Tejada with a time of 49:02. In the men’s race the winner was Antonio Lorente who stopped the clock at 35:44, followed by Pedro Ángel Guillamón with 36:10 and in third place as with 37:42, Alejandro Cases.
After the races were completed the trophies were presented by the mayor, José Fidel Ros, the Councillor for Sports, and the managers of Grupo Caliche and One Telecom.
