Torrevieja has some of the lowest investments in social services in the whole of Spain, according to a report published by the Association of Managers looking at 350 towns with populations of over 20,000. Investment comes at 36 euro per head whilst the national average is at 50 euro, with the Valencian region and the Madrid area coming up with some of the lowest figures.
Three other areas in Alicante Province, San Vicente, El Campello and L’Alfàs del Pi also figure amongst the poorest investors in social services. Torrevieja has regularly figured high on national surveys looking at the number of people said to be living in poverty.
