Orihuela local police have taken to social networks to remind pet owners of the importance of having their animals microchipped.
The reminder came about after officers were called to an incident on Wednesday morning in the La Murada area of the municipality, where a dog had been knocked down by a car.
Several drivers assisted at the scene, whom the police have also thanked, but they were unable to identify the dog or advise the owner of the incident.
Fortunately, the dog survived and there were no other injuries at the scene, and so the Asoka animal welfare group have taken the pet to look after it until the owner comes forward.
As well as reminding of the importance of microchipping, the police would also like to remind dog owners of the need to keep their animals under control and safe at all times, as this situation could have been a lot worse.
