A Polish couple, accused of swindling one point six million euro of social security out of German authorities, have been arrested in the San Fulgencio area by the Guardia Civil.
The 51-year-old man and 52-year-old woman, were taken to a Madrid court to face an extradition hearing. German authorities were tipped off that the couple were living in the Costa Blanca area, and the Guardia were then brought in to track them down.
The couple, who have lived in Spain for 11 years, allegedly hired Polish workers without insuring and without paying the relevant contributions to the social security system in Germany, which cost the taxpayer over 450 thousand euro. They also illegally claimed nearly one point two million euro in unemployment benefits.
