During a 24 hour campaign, traffic officers from the Guardia Civil in Murcia detected 19 professional drivers who tested positive for drugs (6 for Cocaine, 12 for cannabis and 1 for both).
During the operation, which took place on the 2nd of November, officers checked the drivers of a total of 235 trucks, with the alarming statistic that 8% were positive for drugs.
All of these drivers face the consequences of their actions and a loss of livelihood, although that is a far better outcome than the potential loss of life that could have been caused by one of these vehicles being involved in a collision, a situation which could be considerably worse when we realise that one of the drivers who were taken off the roads was driving an articulated lorry loaded with propane.
