Are the Shops Open this Sunday?
This weekend sees the start of the official summer period in Spain and so the agreed time when shops across the Valencia region are allowed to open on a Sunday once again.
It was a sudden and shock decision in the spring that led to the shops having to close their doors on a Sunday, leaving many people disappointed, tourists unable to understand what had happened, and wiser people travelling to the neighbouring region of Murcia for their Sunday shopping supplement.
Even giants like Zenia Boulevard and the Habaneras shopping centres struggled to maintain a presence, allowed to stay open to serve food and drink, but not for retail sales.
Depending on the area, the number of Sundays shops were allowed to open each year varied, causing even more confusion for some.
From this Sunday, 17 June, the shops are once again allowed to open and will remain so until the end of the summer season.
