Alicante-Elche Airport Tablet Thieves Arrested
Two people, aged 28 and 42, have been arrested for allegedly stealing four tablets used for automated border control of passengers at Alicante-Elche Airport.
According to a statement from the National Police, the equipment has a value of about 8,000 euro as it allows expediting the landing of passengers during the summer season.
The stolen units form part of a group of 20 tablets recently obtained by the company “Everis Aerospace and Defense”, which were stored in one of the rooms at the airport waiting for them to be made operational.
Days later, intending to activate the device, the personnel in charge of airport security found that four of them had disappeared and an investigation through closed circuit cameras began, identifying the alleged thief as a worker for an outside firm hired by AENA for maintenance of air conditioning machines.
Despite his arrest, it was not possible to find the stolen items, so an extensive search took place, which led to the discovery of one of tablets in a commercial establishment in the city of Alicante. Officers found the woman who had sold this tablet, who turned out to be the partner of the perpetrator of the theft, who then helped recover the remaining units before they were both brought to justice.
