The Guardia Civil report that it was specialist officers from the Office of Fiscal Analysis and Research (ODAIFI) who located the drugs in the suitcases when they were checked the cargo hold of a plane to Eindhoven.

According to the ODAIFI officers, in addition to customs control tasks, they carry out investigations of risk analysis in community flights without customs control. During that test, they perceived the characteristic odour of marijuana that seemed to come from two identical suitcases, which were set apart from the rest of the luggage.

One of the officers inspected the cases and the labelling and identified the passenger who was already seated on the plane which was preparing for takeoff.

The officers removed the passenger and luggage from the aircraft and, once the cases were opened, found 24n plastic enclosures with a substance inside, later confirmed to be marijuana.

The total weight of the drug amounted to 27.32 kilograms of marijuana, the market value being in the region of 40,000 euro.

The passenger was arrested and taken to court, charged with a crime against public health, and entered in custody.
