Cabo Roig will be brought to life on the 17th march with green white and gold. Four kilometres of buntings will make Cabo Roig colourful for St Patricks and the greenest place in Spain. This is going to be the biggest parade in Spain with bands, floats, Irish dancers and many other dance groups, plus entertainers of all nationalities. There will also be a few surprises on the day, a number taking part in the parade itself.
Along with Eamonn O’Hare, who will be parade Grand Marshall, he will be joined by Christy Heffernan and Jim Sheridan, all greats in their own sports and joining them will be Paudge Connolly, a former member of the Irish Parliament, a present councillor of Monahan co and a substitute candidate for the European Parliament, together with John Burke, ex Commandant of the Irish Army. We also hope to have other guests on the day, a few of whom are still to confirm. We are also hoping that all the councillors from the Orihuela region will be attending along with the mayor of Orihuela and mayors from other regions. We want to make this parade one for everybody to enjoy.
A special word of thanks must go to all the fundraisers for without them this parade would not take place and to all the business in Cabo Roig that help to fund the parade. Look out for the bars and restaurants with the green buntings these are the people that supported us and now need your support in return.
The parade will start at 3.30 at the back of the strip at Aldeas de Aguamarina. It will continue up as far as the medical centre and down the front of the strip. It will be led by St Patrick himself. The parade will be extremely energetic and colourful and a joy for everybody to watch.
There will be bouncy castles, face painting and a few cartoon characters for the younger generation and may be a few gifts also. This year we had speakers on all local radio stations in Ireland who have been promoting the parade over the past few weeks and with Irish tv showing the parade for the first time it will put Cabo Roig and the Orihuela Costa firmly on the map.
This week will see a massive volume of people travelling to the Orihuela Costa for the parade with the air line company’s putting on extra flights. This shows that the hard work by the residents and business has paid of which will in turn help the Orihuela Costa.
Finally our thanks to the town hall and the police of Orihuela Costa for their help and support in making this year’s St Patricks day Parade the best parade outside of Ireland. We hope that you all enjoy yourselves on Sunday.
