A group of expert ophthalmologists from the Torrevieja and Vinalopó hospitals performed live retina surgery to a conference attended by around 100 delegates, to showcase the latest surgical procedures in treating patients with eye diseases. A total of six different procedures were demonstrated, after which the surgeons were available to answer questions about the techniques in this pioneering scheme. For cataract surgery alone, during 2012 about 2,000 patients were treated in Torrevieja and more than 1,700 in Vinalopó. These figures highlight the efforts of both teams to improve the accessibility of this life changing surgery to patients.
