Prison for throwing a television out of a hotel window

It may be seen by some as rebellious and “rock and roll”, but throwing a television out of a hotel window is not a good idea, as prison is now the result of one person’s actions.

The Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands has confirmed the six-month prison sentence of a man for throwing a television out of the window of a hotel in Magaluf.

The incident took place in the early morning of June 29, 2019. The accused was in a hotel room with another person and threw a television valued at 550 euro into the garden, rendering it useless.

A Court convicted him and forced him to compensate the hotel for the value of the television. The man appealed the sentence because he was not at the trial.

The Court rejects his appeal because it “clearly” shows that he was summoned to the trial and therefore concludes that he did not appear of his own free will. Furthermore, the defence did not request to suspend the act.

The result of this defiant act, where an interim solution could have been found by just paying the compensation, or better still, behave like a responsible adult in the first place.
