FISHERMAN KILLED BY LIGHTNING

A 49 year old fisherman, from the Dominican Republic, has died after falling into the water after being struck by lightning when he was fishing in a boat near the town of Santoña, in northern Spain.

The emergency services report that the man fell overboard after the lightning strike, at which point time his nephew, who was with him, and other vessels that were in the area, tried to rescue him.

A salvage and rescue team were dispatched to the area but could only rescue the man´s body, without signs of life. The Cruz Roja were also dispatched to assist in counselling those who witnessed the tragedy.
