SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED FOR BBC SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR 2013

The BBC is delighted to announce the shortlist for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2013.
The nominees, who have all enjoyed a highly successful year of exceptional achievement, were revealed live on The One Show on Tuesday 26 November. The shortlist of 10 contenders was put together by an expert panel of sports specialists.
The nominees for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2013 are (in alphabetical order):
- Ben Ainslie – Sailing
- Ian Bell – Cricket
- Hannah Cockroft – Wheelchair athletics
- Mo Farah – Athletics
- Chris Froome – Cycling
- Leigh Halfpenny – Rugby Union
- AP McCoy – Horse Racing
- Andy Murray – Tennis
- Christine Ohuruogu – Athletics
- Justin Rose – Golf
The 10 shortlisted contenders will now compete for the public vote on the night of the live show, which is presented by Gary Lineker, Clare Balding and Gabby Logan on BBC One, Sunday 15 December at 7.40pm. This year the show comes from the First Direct Arena in Leeds.
Voting for the main award will be from a shortlist of 10 contenders presented during the live show. Voting will be available by phone or online. The number to call for each contender will be revealed during the programme. There is no voting via email, Red Button or by text. For further information go to bbc.co.uk/sportspersonality.
In addition to the main award of Sports Personality of the Year there will also be awards for:
- Team of the Year
- Coach of the Year
- Overseas Sports Personality of the Year
- Young Sports Personality of the Year
- Sports Personality of the Year Diamond Award
- Helen Rollason Award
- Sports Unsung Hero
The shortlist was decided by a panel consisting of Director of BBC Sport (Barbara Slater, Chair), BBC Head of TV Sport (Philip Bernie), Executive Editor of BBC Sports Personality of the Year (Carl Doran); from BBC Radio 5 live (Mark Pougatch, Presenter 5 live Sport); three newspaper sports editors: Alison Kervin (Mail on Sunday), Adam Sills (Daily Telegraph) and Dominic Hart (Daily Mirror); a pan sports broadcaster/journalist (Sue Barker); former nominees: Dame Kelly Holmes and Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and former cricketer, Marcus Trescothick MBE; along with Liz Nicholl OBE, Chief Executive UK Sport.
