DAYA NUEVA POLICE TO BE MOBILE AGAIN

The Local Police of Daya Nueva will be mobile once again soon, after the municipal government approved an extraordinary expense of 17,000 euro to buy the officers a patrol vehicle.

The officers had been without a vehicle for a month, after the lease on their previous car expired and wasn´t renewed. Since then, the officers have been using a vehicle allocated to the Social Services, although that vehicle lacked the mandatory marking, lights and sirens for a police patrol vehicle.

The finances were approved by the local government led by the UPDN Mayor, María Teresa Martínez, despite opposition from the Partido Popular, who criticised the move as they considered leasing is a better option than the outright purchase, on account of the risks involved in policing the streets and to save the future costs of repairs.

The PP were also critical of the 2015 budget being reduced which would not have allowed for the lease payments to continue, with the assumption being that it was the intention all along to purchase a car.
