Cutbacks in Local Government
The new tripartite government of Alicante has formulated a proposal to sell off all but one of their official vehicles, keeping just the one for use on official visits.
The new socialist mayor, Gabriel Echávarri, made the announcement this week, in his first week of office, highlighting the expense that the fleet of 12 luxury vehicles costs the municipal funds.
The previous government run by Partido Popular majority purchased the high-end vehicles in 2010, including five Peugeot 607´s, two Wolkswagen Passats, a Chrysler and a number of Audi´s.
This news also comes after the Ciudadanos group in Almoradí have proposed plans to sell one of their 70,000 euro official vehicles in order to buy a new patrol car for the police.
