As summer 2013 starts to take hold, Orihuela Costa will play host to a wide range of cultural, musical, sporting and fun activities, suitable for all ages, bringing all town hall departments, businesses and associations together to offer the most diverse range of events ever for the coast.

One of the most anticipated elements is the guided tours of Orihuela, where a costumed actor will play the part of a tour guide, with a theatrical tour on a Tuesday and Thursday, and a cultural walk on Wednesday and Friday, right through July and August.

The traditional Moros y Cristianos fiesta continues in Orihuela from the 17th of July, with buses provided from the coast to the city to enable visitors to enjoy this event without the worry of driving.

On Wednesday 24th of July, the Medieval Market will be on the Aguamarina promenade, offering a wide range of traditional food, gifts and crafts, to the backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea.

On Saturday the 27th of July there will be two padel tournaments, one of which will be at the municipal sports centre on the coast, the second actually on the beach, at Playa La Glea, the “Pulsa Pádel” which will continue into the Sunday.

There will also be a children´s play area, complete with bouncy castles and much more on the beach on Saturday, whereas the sports centre will be taken over in the evening by the second nighttime football tournament.

On the 1st of August, Cabo Roig becomes Ibiza for the day, as the Chiringuitos Del Sol host the “Fiesta Ibicena”, La Glea beach will play host to one of the greatest fitness trends of modern times, as supervised Zumba classes are held. La Glea beach also become home to the “Orihuela Beach Cup” football tournament, with the children´s bouncy castle and play area returning once again on the Saturday.

If music is more your “thing”, then Saturday the 3rd of August is definitely a date for your diary, as La Zenia beach becomes the venue for a concert by some of the best tribute acts in Spain, with music from across the decades, featuring Queen, The Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

From the 9th to the 11th of August, as the Chiringitos Del Sol host the seventh Orihuela Costa Cup Beach Volleyball competition, whereas the second half of the month sees more Zumba at Barranco Rubio and Mil Palmeras, as well as the workshops for children, a musical dance spectacular of the Noche de Flamenco, the religious element of the Assumption of Mary pilgrimage, the Fisherman´s market, more nighttime football and another Padel tournament.

As we move into September, quite possibly one of the biggest events to reach the coast this year is the Spanish National Beach Volleyball competition from the 5th to the 8th, as well as the European Lawn Bowling Tournament from the 29th to the 4th of October, two world renowned events that will both raise the profile of the Orihuela Costa.

Full details of all these events, as well as how to take part, can be found in a leaflet being produced by the town hall, which can be collected from the tourist information office. There is also a poster displaying most of the events printed in The Leader this week, so you can tear it out and put it on your fridge as a reminder.

You can also call the tourist office in Playa Flamenca on 966 760 000, dialing extension 32/24, email the tourist info office on orihuelaplaya@touristinfo.net, or contact the International Residents office by email, residentes@orihuela.es, not forgetting you can simply visit the professional teams in the office who will be happy to offer any advice you might need.

Many of these events may not be new to the coast, but the coordination of the dissemination of information as to where they are happening is something of a first, so it is hoped that even more people will be able to participate and enjoy the benefits that summer on the Orihuela Costa has to offer.
