Shopping centres continue to grow in traffic and sales
Retail space management company Nhood, who, amongst the 30 shopping centres in Spain they manage includes the Zenia Boulevard, the largest commercial centre in the Alicante province, has announced significant growth in 2023, according to its annual balance sheet.
The tenants of its 30 shopping centres in Spain have experienced a 5% increase in sales compared to the previous year. This growth is also reflected in the number of renewals and new contracts, with more than 70 new brands joining its portfolio and around 100 renewals.
A notable aspect of Nhood in Spain is its high occupancy rate, reaching 97% in its 570,000 square metres managed nationwide. Teresa Verdugo, head of property & asset management (PAS) & market at Nhood Spain, attributes this success to the company’s efforts to “generate and innovate in the visiting experience, beyond the purchasing process and add value with complementary proposals and unique leisure, restaurant and commerce facilities.
The shopping centres managed by Nhood in Spain have also seen an increase in footfall, with an average growth of 7% in 2023. In particular, Vialia Vigo and Zenia Boulevard, the two most relevant centres under its management, recorded an increase of 15% in visits.
The company also organised 1,109 events and leisure actions on its assets, including social education and environmental activities.
Strengthening and expanding the Nhood Spain retail portfolio
Regarding the expansion of its retail portfolio, Nhood has added internationally renowned brands such as Pepco, Grupo Tendam, Bimba y Lola, Xiaomi, Kiabi, Tea Shop, Fitzgerald, Casa Carmen and Sushisom. In addition, the company has contributed to the expansion of the French restaurant brand 3 Brasseurs in Spain, through its Tenant Representation service.
Nhood’s specialty leasing area has experienced notable growth, increasing its business volume by 78%, reaching five million euro in 2023. According to Javier Matey, specialty leasing manager of Nhood in Spain, this success is partly due to the increase in new clients and the strong increase in pop-up formats.
It is also worth remembering the project launched by this department at the end of last year: Nhido by Nhood, an omnichannel tool designed to facilitate leasing in shopping centres. This initiative seeks to democratise retail spaces and offer digital and scalable solutions to entrepreneurs and small businesses. Javier Matey highlights that “Nhido by Nhood is part of the evolution of Specialty Leasing within Nhood, democratising retail spaces and making available to our clients all possible solutions to develop within our commercial spaces. Nhido is the first step towards the digitalisation and internationalisation of Specialty Leasing at Nhood.”
