When you receive your next electricity bill, you might find it´s slightly more expensive than you thought, after the latest increase set by the government came into force on the 1st of July.
Despite the increase to an average bill being 1.3%, the equivalent of 0.96 euro, this now makes the average monthly bill come to 75.72 euro, which is 59.54 euro plus 27.19% tax and IVA.
However, despite climbs and dives in the price of the year, the 2011 July increase saw the average user spend 73.99 euro per month, which was 59.65, plus taxes, showing how it is the taxable element that is increasing.
The government are making plans to change the way the wholesale price is set, which is currently done through auction, but some consumer groups say that this will still result in higher prices for the end user, as taxes continue to rise and the freedom to “shop around” is reduced.
