A captive tiger used for performances at the Gottani circus in Madrid attacked its trainer in the middle of a show on Friday evening.
The emergency services received a call at 19:13 reporting the incident, with the trainer suffering a bite injury and several claw marks.
The municipal and National police attended the scene, along with an ambulance, who found a 35 year old male, conscious and oriented, with a “significant bite” to his neck and various claws on his back and leg.
The injured man was stabilized at the scene before being transferred to hospital by ambulance. The 60 year old mother of the trainer was also treated at the scene for an anxiety attack, but was released from care shortly after.
The Gottani circus has been the subject of a variety of protests by animal rights groups in the past over their treatment of the animals used in shows.
