The members of San Isidro council elected Socialist Damián Sabater as the new mayor of the town on Tuesday following the resignation last month of Fernando Morales.
Morales was mayor of the small town from 1983 to 1995 and from 2007 until he decided to stand down last month.
Sabater was formerly the deputy mayor and the councilor responsible for Transport. He was nominated for the position by the Municipal Socialist Group, which has five councilors, compared to four with the Partido Popular.
When asked who his replacement would be in the department of transport Sabater was cautious.
He told reporters that it would be one of two council members, either Manuel Pérez, or José Andrada both of whom had served in San Isidro since the early 80’s.
